Would you like me to visit your school or library?
I love talking with kids about writing, reading, and being creative. I use my books and characters, along with my journey as a writer, to inspire students to trust their own creativity. Through discussing the truths and myths around the creative process, I encourage students to do what they love!
You can choose from three short programs, or you can arrange for me to visit your school for a whole day!
This workshop is for small book clubs, libraries, classrooms, and homeschool groups. Each student brings their own creative project to the workshop—a writing project, a drawing, a plan to build a birdhouse, whatever they like—and I teach them helpful steps to nurture their creativity and gain confidence in the creative process. Includes Q & A. (Grades 4-8)
Virtual Cost: $200
In Person Visit: $300 + travel expenses outside of LA
Building a Book (50-55 minutes)
I’ll take your students on a journey to build a book from start to finish—from idea to publication. Using my middle grade book, Not a Unicorn as the mentor text, I’ll illuminate the creative process, the revision process, and the publishing process with your budding readers and writers. Presentation suitable for small and large groups. Includes Q & A. (Grades 4-8)

Custom Interactive Talk (50-55 minutes)
Let me build a custom interactive program for your classroom. I’ll craft an engaging workshop based on your current classroom needs and interests. (Grades 4-8)

Mix and Match – In Person School Day Visit
Book me for an entire day at your school! This includes 4 presentations or workshops (choose from my programs above). Plus, I’ll have lunch with a select group of emerging young writers who want to engage in author-talk over your delicious cafeteria fare. (Grades 4-8)
In Person Day Visit: $900 + travel expenses outside of LA
Not quite ready for a paid visit? As time allows, I offer FREE 30 minute virtual visits with classrooms who have read one of my books. You can also sign up for a 20 minute virtual read aloud and Q & A on World Read Aloud Day. Please contact me in December or early January to secure a slot.
And of course, sign up for my newsletter to stay posted on events, offerings, and giveaways throughout the year!
“I’ve been fortunate to have several authors visit my classroom both in-person and via Zoom. While each of those experiences was special in its own way, Dana Middleton’s visits were the most engaging and inspiring for my students. I hope to have Dana as a guest author again in the future because it is such a wonderful opportunity for students to meet the author of a book that they loved reading.”

“Dana is just wonderful – she explains the writing process from start to finish and really encourages creativity in my students. She even took the time to autograph each child’s book – and they were thrilled! Her visits always remain a highlight of the year for my class. I cannot recommend her books enough!”
Jamie Reeves, Special Ed Teacher
Marina del Rey Middle School, Marina del Rey, CA
“The students and I agree that Dana’s presentation to our 4th grade Book Club was fabulous! Dana has instant rapport with the students, calling them by name and talking with them as if she was sitting right next to each one. Her excitement for writing and her encouragement for students to pursue what they love is contagious. According to Adriana, “Dana is the best author ever! She inspired me to keep writing and to keep an eye out for my infinity power.”
